Diabetes Mellitus: Effective Prevention and Control Strategies in the Community

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a significant public health challenge worldwide, including in Indonesia. This article discusses effective strategies for preventing and controlling DM in the community by identifying risk factors, such as unhealthy diet and lack of physical activity. Through a community-based approach, health education programs, and healthy lifestyle promotion, communities can be empowered to reduce the risk of DM. Nutrition counseling and group sports activities have been shown to be effective in increasing awareness of healthy lifestyles, especially among individuals with a family history of DM. The results of the study showed that collaboration between the government, health institutions, and the community is very important in creating an environment that supports DM prevention. Interventions carried out at the community level, such as the formation of support groups and ongoing counseling, have had a positive impact on changes in healthy living behavior. By increasing community and stakeholder involvement, it is hoped that the incidence of diabetes mellitus can be reduced, and the quality of life of sufferers can be significantly improved.
