Abstract

Enzyme engineering is a branch of biochemistry and biotechnology that focuses on the design, modification, and optimization of enzymes to improve the efficiency of biocatalytic processes. Enzymes are used in various industrial sectors such as food, pharmaceuticals, and environmental processing. Despite the many benefits, challenges in enzyme stability and production costs remain significant barriers. This study uses a bibliometric approach to identify trends and major contributions in the field of enzyme engineering, by analyzing publications from Scopus. The results of the analysis show fluctuations in the number of annual publications, dominant contributions from developed countries, and the importance of an interdisciplinary approach in this research. Future research can focus on the development of multifunctional enzymes, improving stability under extreme conditions, and exploring new applications. Enzyme engineering has the potential to be a key innovation in environmentally friendly and sustainable industries.
